Introduction
The Aga Khan University (AKU) has been partnering with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) - an internationally renowned Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research. It has set up the stem cell research programme at Aga Khan University.

The Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM), is a state-of-the-art facility undertaking cutting edge research on stem cell and regenerative medicine on non-communicable diseases prevalent in the developing world; nurturing the next generation of researchers and clinicians; and creating a multidisciplinary collaborative environment that encourages innovation.

AKU-CRM is inviting applications from outstanding and ambitious candidates with experience in cancer stem cell biology. Details of the AKU-UCSF collaboration and AKU-CRM will be shared with the short listed candidates.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:

  • undertaking hands-on bench research
  • developing research project plans
  • organising material, keeping records and doing research on current information and trends in the area
  • developing protocols for conducting the study and having them approved with Ethical Committee at the CRM
  • undertaking periodic review and assessment with presentation to the CRM faculty and CRM Director about the progress with primary investigator/research fellow
  • contributing towards course material and resource development of the CRM
  • providing regular progress reports to the team lead of the research project and keeping track of it
  • applying and maintaining the highest laboratory, health & safety protocols and ethical standards set out by the CRM in line with international protocol
  • aiding administration by giving suggestions in ways to improve the quality of the research laboratories, resources and methods to make laboratory and research systems more effective
  • building an image for the programme and addressing ethical concerns
  • acting as the team lead for coordinating efforts in the research project and ensuring meeting of timelines
  • developing and participating in a cooperative team based culture
  • aiding research fellows and students in preparing projects
  • ensuring all research is up to international standards and is in accordance with the standards set by UCSF/AKU
  • creating a collaborative environment that is cross faculty on international and national levels, thereby contributing to educational innovation and impact
  • providing suggestions in developing policies and ethical processes of international standards pertaining to research conduction, stem cell lines development, and maintaining stem cell lines and laboratory equipment.


Requirements
You must have:

  • a PhD in the relevant subject area or have submitted your PhD for examination
  • the passion for research and have bench-side experience
  • an extensive first hand laboratory experience
  • the relevant publications in journals of international repute
  • good communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English.
Selected candidates will be part of a multi-disciplinary team which collectively build critical capacity in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. Applicants will be expected to spend some time at UCSF.
